Breathwork is the bridge between the mind and physical body. When your breath is shallow and rapid, stress hormones rise. By conscious regulation of the breath, you can instantly shift your body into a restorative state.
1. Diaphragmatic (Belly) Breathing
Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. Inhale slowly through your nose, allowing your belly to expand while keeping your chest relatively still. Exhale gently, drawing the navel slightly inward.
2. Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)
An ancient technique to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Use your right thumb to close your right nostril, inhale through the left, then close the left nostril with your ring finger and exhale through the right.
3. Box Breathing (Equal Ratio Breathing)
Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts, and hold empty for 4 counts. Excellent for nervous system regulation before important tasks or evening relaxation.
